39709153_lWith flowers blooming and trees beginning to bud, there is no denying that spring has arrived in Jackson. With the temperatures rising and the sun shining, it is the perfect time to head outdoors and admire the beauty around us.

There are a variety of ways for Jackson seniors to enjoy the season despite physical limitations. Here are a few of our favorite spring activities.

Go Fishing
The Jackson, TN area provides a number of great fishing spots including Little Johnson Creek, Johnson Creek, Lake Ten and Duncan Lake. Striped Bass, Brown Trout and Drum are all found in large populations throughout the areas waters.

See a Baseball Game
This spring, cheer for the home team as the Jackson Generals kick off their season. The Jackson Generals are the Double- A Southern League Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. There is no better weather for a baseball game and Cracker Jacks.

Spring Clean
Spring is the perfect time to open the windows and breathe in a little fresh air. Sort and organize cabinets and closets, getting rid of the old and making room for the new.

Visit the Park
Gather the grandchildren and head to the park for an afternoon of outdoor fun and adventure. With a rise in screen time for children, a day at the park can be a much needed break for play. There is no limit on outdoor adventure.

Take a Walk
With mild temperatures, spring is ideal for taking a stroll. Walking daily can be beneficial to your health. Research has shown that walking reduces your risk for diabetes and heart disease, lowers blood pressure and increases bone density.

See a Concert
No matter the season, music is always an enjoyable activity. At Regency, the entertainment comes to our community. The Fairgrounds Park and Ned McWherter Arts Centre both host a variety of wonderful acts.

Take a Trip
You don’t have to travel far to see the sights and sounds of spring. Places like the Casey Jones Museum and the N.C. & St. L. Depot and Railroad Museum are interesting area attractions. With warmer temperatures ahead, we have already begun planning a number of day trips.

Plant a Garden
Get your hands dirty and dig in the dirt this spring. Gardening can be a very relaxing activity. Whether you are planting rows of vegetables or a few flowers in a pot, gardening has wonderful benefits.

Visit a Farmers Market
There are few more tasty things than biting into a fresh home grown vegetable. During the warmer months, stop by the Jackson Farmers Market on New Market Street. Filled with locally grown fruits and vegetables, the market also features entertainment and a variety of other goodies.

When embarking on a spring adventure, it is important that seniors take the proper precautions to ensure their safety. With an average spring and summer temperature in the 80’s, it is important to stay cool and avoid over exerting yourself.

Decreased circulations and other medical issues can put seniors at an increased risk for heat related problems. When getting outside, it’s important for seniors to protect their health by dressing lightly, staying hydrated, drinking plenty of fluids, wearing a broad-brimmed hat with sunglasses, and applying sunscreen before heading out.

We hope you enjoy the beautiful spring days before the hot summer days are upon us.
